How Quality Backlinks for Unique Home Decor Can Ease Unemployment
The latest unemployment numbers are disheartening. This is not a political article about who is to blame since economics is way too complicated for me. I suspect that there is plenty of blame to go around. Nor do I have any solutions except the one proposed below.
Last year my son started a retail website that sells unique home decor products and gifts. Needless to say it has been slow going. We can hang in there because overhead is low and we do not have any employees.
There is a lot to learn about marketing on the internet and we did not take the time to learn it first. For those who are not familiar with opening a store on the internet it is akin to opening it in a black hole. If you open a physical store with an actual address people can drive by it and see it or see signs that you put out. But with a couple of hundred million sites on the Internet how do you get known. No one is going to know what your web address is so they have to find you some other way. This is where Google (primarily, and secondarily Bing) come in. They help you find places on the Internet when you type phrases in. If you are looking for a bicycle you can type in “bicycle” and it will give you places to go. If you type in “red bicycle” it is all the better because Google will narrow down the sites that it lists.
That means that the trick is to get Google to notice that your site exists so that when someone types in a phrase that has something to do with your site you will show up. This is not easy. You have to do what is called SEO or Search Engine Optimization. This is a process to get Google to recognize you. There are hundreds of things that you can do, thousands of people who will try to sell you things that will assist you (but in most cases won’t) and in the end no one really knows what works because Google keeps its algorithms secret. But there are some pretty smart people out there who study Google and have figured out a few things.
One way to get Google to recognize you is to advertise with them. However, this is very expensive and is usually beyond the reach of small sites. Imagine competing against Target or Home Depot for advertising space. They will just outbid you.
Another way is to get enough people to like your site so that Google decides that you must be popular (sort of like high school) and it will show you. The main way that Google keeps track of how popular you are is by the number of “backlinks” that you have. A backlink is a link that another site makes to your site. The more backlinks that you have the more popular Google thinks you are except that it doesn’t work that way. It’s not the number of backlinks – it’s the quality. If you have 100 backlinks from sites that no one visits Google doesn’t give you any credit because it does not show that you are popular. But a backlink from CNN.com, or Fox.com or other popular sites is gold. Google figures that if these popular sites like you then you must be pretty good and your Google rank goes up.
There’s only one problem – how do you get a popular website to link to you. Popular websites don’t know that you exist anymore than Google does. It is improbable that a small website will ever get recognized by a popular website.
Here is where the unemployment rate comes in. Backlinks from a government or university website are considered good, high quality and authoritative links. If you can get a link from a.gov or a.edu site you are doing well. My proposal is that Whitehouse.gov, one of the most authoritative websites around, link to my son’s site. They can issue a press release that says if you want unique home decor go to uniquegiftsanddecor.com. Or they can bury it in some other statement. The result will be that the website will become more popular, it will sell more stuff and it will need to hire additional people to help out thus providing jobs. The beauty of this is that it doesn’t cost anything. Of course for this to work the White House can’t give a bunch of links to other retail websites or everything gets diluted. So this is a onetime chance for the White House to step up and do something to help with unemployment without having to spend any money. We will be waiting.
Authors note: This is tongue in check. The author’s heart goes out to those who are unemployed or having a difficult time in this economy and does not intend in any way to make light of the situation.

Home Improvement Remodeling
What to add and what not to add is the question every home owner seeking improvement will ask. Home improvement involves the reorganization and upgrading of the indoor and outdoor environment.
For a lot of home owners, the landscaping is really important. Landscaping influences the mood or aura of your home, a home with a pool and a fountain translates to a tranquil and serene environment. Moreover, a garden that is well kept with beautiful landscaping could be an attraction to homebuyers when and if you do eventually decide to put your home on the market.
Home improvements are a great investment in your house and you get a more comfortable and beautiful home in the process. There are two main methods of home improvement; you could choose to do a complete overhaul of your home or just do a remodeling project.
Home improvement remodeling is much less expensive than a complete overhaul and could be anything from changing your kitchen floors to changing the heating system in your home.
The kitchen is one of the more popular improvement remodeling projects. The areas for remodeling in a kitchen are vast and there is always something extra you could do to enhance the look of your kitchen and add more value to the home as a whole. Some kitchen improvement remodeling projects could be as complex as placing an island in a kitchen that had none before or could be simply refacing existing cabinets.
The bathroom is another area that is the focus of home improvement remodeling. There is just so much that can be done in a bathroom. You could simply change the tiles and there are many tiles to choose from including ceramic tiles or you could change the whole look of the bathroom; add an oriental or eastern feel to your bathroom.
You could also decide on an addition to your existing home such as a patio. You might want to change the look of our present patio or add a patio where one did not previously exist. Concrete slabs are quite common even though tiles of different materials are gradually gaining popularity.
Whatever form of home improvement remodeling you eventually decide to engage in, it is realy important to make sure that you are making the most of your money. This should be done by ensuring that the materials you are using are of the highest quality, to avoid your having to replace materials soon after the project is done. Furthermore, working with a qualified and reputable home improvement company is imperative to make certain that you are getting value for your money.
Home improvement means that you are adding value to your home, which translates as a prudent investment. You get the added advantage of living in a beautiful environment that affords you maximum comfort.
Dyson Vacuum Cleaner – The World’s Most Revolutionary Vacuum
Paying over $ 500 for a vacuum isn’t an easy decision for most people, but customers who have purchased a Dyson vacuum cleaner are very satisfied. People are amazed at the amount of dirt and pet hair Dyson vacuum cleaners pick up. Instead of using vacuum bags and filters to trap dust and dirt, Dyson vacuums use patented cyclone technology to spin the dirt out of the air. That’s one of the reasons why Dyson vacuums never lose suction and pick up more dirt than regular vacuum cleaners. History of Dyson Vacuum CleanersWhile vacuuming his home in 1978, James Dyson realized his bag vacuum cleaner was losing suction power. He noticed that dust particles were clogging the pores of the vacuum blocking airflow so that suction decreased rapidly. He was determined to find a solution to this problem. Five years and 5,127 prototypes later, the world’s first cyclonic bagless vacuum cleaner was invented. The First Dyson Vacuum CleanerIn 1993, James Dyson opened a research center and factory near his home in England. His goal was to design a vacuum cleaner that didn’t lose suction and collected more dust than his bag vacuum cleaner. The original team of three Dyson bagless vacuum engineers eventually grew to 350 scientists in a new research center, investigating ways to make products work better. Determined to create vacuum cleaners with increased suction power, the cyclonic vacuum cleaner team set to work developing an entirely new type of vacuum system. The result was the Dyson Cyclone vacuum cleaner, the first vacuum cleaner that didn’t lose suction. The vacuum cleaner he designed was able to collect the finest particles of dust (microscopic particles as small as cigarette smoke) without clogging. Types of Dyson Bagless Vacuum CleanersPopular Dyson vacuum cleaners include the Dyson Ball and Dyson Animal vacuum cleaners. The unique ball design of the Dyson Ball vacuum allows users to maneuver around furniture and other obstacles with the turn of a wrist. The Dyson Animal vacuum cleaner is perfect for pet hair pick up, specially designed to remove pet hair and dirt from tight spaces such as upholstery, stairs and cars. Dyson also carries a wide range of All-Floors vacuums for every floor type, including lightweight versions and Animal versions. Dyson also offers powerful handheld vacuum cleaners with the same suction power available in full-size models. Handheld Dyson vacuums are available in standard and animal versions. No matter which type of Dyson vacuum you choose, all Dyson vacuums offer unsurpassable suction power and amazing cleaning abilities. Another feature that sets Dyson vacuum cleaners apart from other vacuums is the extension hose.
